The short answer
We chose AGPL-3.0 because PinConsole is positioned as an open-source alternative to proprietary SaaS tools like FullStory, Hotjar, and LogRocket. If we used MIT or Apache 2.0, a cloud provider could take PinConsole, wrap it in a SaaS offering, and compete directly with the open-source project — without contributing anything back. AGPL-3.0 prevents this by requiring anyone who modifies and distributes the software (including over a network) to release their modifications under the same license.
In short: AGPL protects the project from being commoditized by SaaS providers while keeping it fully open and free for self-hosted users.
